My Winter Coat

Happy post-bonfire night to all you ladies.  I thought I'd do a fashion post today on my perfect winter coat.  I don't do fashion posts very often - I can get my fashion very wrong - probably nearly as much as I get it right!  I love clothes, but I do struggle with styling sometimes, and I'll often find myself wearing shoes that don't work with my trousers, or a top that just looks wrong.  This could probably be solved if I had a full-length mirror in my flat, but that's another story...

Anyway, I've been completely sold on the camel trend this winter.  In particular, I think Next has produced some great pieces, and I loved everything in their advert set in Paris which was on TV earlier in the autumn.  When I saw the camel coat in the advert, I decided I had found my perfect winter coat - my search was over before I'd even started looking!

The coat cost £75 which I think was very reasonable for a (mainly) wool coat which is completely this season.  I have a wool coat in my cupboard which I bought when I worked for Next back in 1999 (eek)!  That cost £80 before my staff discount, so the prices have come down in the past 11 years.

The coat is described as 'fit and flare'.  It is realtively tightly fitted around the waist, whilst it swings out to a mid thigh length.  It is slightly longer at the back than the front, which I really like, at it swishes and swings around when you walk.

The coat is double-breasted with military style buttons spaced out at an angle either side of the front.  It has slightly rouched sleaves, which adds to the military feel.

I'm totally in love with this coat - it's absolutely fabulous, and I'm enjoying wearing it everyday.  I was pleased when the weather started to get colder so I could put it on.  The only thing I'm worried about is it getting dirty, as it's such a light colour.  I'm being really precious about hanging it up properly and paranoid about where I put it down in the pub etc...

What do you reckon?  It's my favourite fashion purchase of the autumn so far.

Thanks for reading!  xx

Great coat, I have so many coats, to me if you live in this country spend money on your coat, because that is what you will be seen in most of the time! This is perfect, like the detail on the sleeve. And love the pic of you in it. Jan x

Thanks for all your lovely comments!

@ Jan - I agree that a really cheap coat is a false economy. I had one from Primark years ago. Not only did everyone else have the same one, but it wasn't even very warm and it split at the seams before Christmas! I still have my old, nice (discounted) Next coats in my wardrobe and it's more than 10 years since I worked there...
