You may have seen my previous post on Barry M Instant Naill Effects, when it worked poorly on one hand, and it was just about OK on the other. I chatted with a few people on Twitter, and had a few comments, so I decided to give it another go, as the verdict was that the under-coat wasn't quite dry.
For my second attempt, I used Minted by Revlon, used two coats, gave it about half an hour to dry before putting on the Instant Nail Effects. It didn't work at all. I'd forgotten that Minted by Revlon is a terrible polish to apply and takes forever to dry, depsite being a gorgeous colour. Exactly the same happened, with the base coat smudging and flaking, and the gloopy Instant Nail Effects not working properly. I whipped it all off at once and tried again, this time using a single coat of Mavala Elle as the base, and drying it for an hour.
Yet again, I got a terrible effect from this. The formula is just so gloopy, I find it impossible to do a thin coat. It just looks awful!
Look away now if you hate toes and feet - I do!
When I first bought it, I decided to try it out on the top of my pedicure (which is Gypsy by GOSH). I'd had my toe nails painted for at least a week already with a topcoat on (yeah right - more like 3 or 4 weeks)!. I did this really quickly, and it worked perfectly! I've just not been able to replicate it on my fingers. I'm not sure why it worked at first, but has now gone gloopy.
My verdict is, I've got a bad bottle of the formula. I've seen so many blog posts where it looks really amazing, but my bottle just isn't working! I think I'm just going to chuck it away.

First Attempt at Barry M Instant Nail Effects - Partial Success, Partial Fail
I thought I'd show you my first attempt at using Barry M Nail Instant Effects for Halloween last week. Unfortunately, it wasn't entirely successful.
After seeing everyone else's fantastic creations, I was really looking forward to trying it, especially as it is so easy to use. I used a shocking pink Rimmel polish first, a colour I've had for ages. I then applied the Barry M and waited for the magic to happen...
On my left hand it look alright.
But my right hand was smudged and chipped, with big lumps of Barry M. I had to encourage it to crack on my nails with an orange stick. It was a bit of a fail on this hand.
I talked to Laura from That's So Yesterday on Twitter who won my Barry M giveaway. She suggested that perhaps the bottom coat wasn't completely dry, which is probably true, as I applied it in a rush. I also think that I was a bit heavy handed with the Nail Effects application. I'll have to have another go at it so see if I can get a better finish.
It's a shame that it wasn't entirely successful, because this definitely isn't a look I'd wear everyday, and I wouldn't dare wear it for work! Halloween is probably the main time of the year that I'll sport these nails. I will have another play with it and take my time to see if I can get it working properly - I really want it to work, as it's such a fun thing to have!
By the way, I quite like the shocking pink/black combo - it makes quite a contrast, and is definitely not the black nail varnish peeling off look.
Have you had any issues with applying this?

CLOSED! Tuesday Mini Giveaway - Barry M Instant Nail Effects
NOW CLOSED
Hi ladies. I popped into Superdrug today (as you do) and picked up up a bottle of Barry M Instant Mail Effects - perfect for Halloween I thought. They were on offer - two polishes for £5 - so I thought I'd get another one for a mini giveaway, as I know they have been flying off the shelves and not that easy to get hold of!
| The lid looks really dusty - I promise I'll dust it for the winner! |
So this giveaway will be open until tomorrow night (Wednesday 27th October) at 9pm, when I'll pick the winner from Random.org. All you need to do to win is to be a follower of my blog, and post a comment below saying "Enter me, my nails need some Barry M". Make sure that your email address is viewable on your blog, or post it below.
You can get a second entry by tweeting about the giveaway, including @bristolbeauty in your tweet, so I can count your tweet.
I'll email the winner straight away, and if you get me your details quickly, you should receive it in time for Halloween!
Good luck! Thanks for being my fabulous followers! xx
