Barry M Instant Nail Effects - Second and Third Attempts - Still Not Working For Me!

You may have seen my previous post on Barry M Instant Naill Effects, when it worked poorly on one hand, and it was just about OK on the other.  I chatted with a few people on Twitter, and had a few comments, so I decided to give it another go, as the verdict was that the under-coat wasn't quite dry.

For my second attempt, I used Minted by Revlon, used two coats, gave it about half an hour to dry before putting on the Instant Nail Effects.  It didn't work at all.  I'd forgotten that Minted by Revlon is a terrible polish to apply and takes forever to dry, depsite being a gorgeous colour.  Exactly the same happened, with the base coat smudging and flaking, and the gloopy Instant Nail Effects not working properly.  I whipped it all off at once and tried again, this time using a single coat of Mavala Elle as the base, and drying it for an hour.

Yet again, I got a terrible effect from this.  The formula is just so gloopy, I find it impossible to do a thin coat.  It just looks awful!

Look away now if you hate toes and feet - I do!

When I first bought it, I decided to try it out on the top of my pedicure (which is Gypsy by GOSH).  I'd had my toe nails painted for at least a week already with a topcoat on (yeah right - more like 3 or 4 weeks)!.  I did this really quickly, and it worked perfectly!  I've just not been able to replicate it on my fingers.  I'm not sure why it worked at first, but has now gone gloopy.

My verdict is, I've got a bad bottle of the formula.  I've seen so many blog posts where it looks really amazing, but my bottle just isn't working!  I think I'm just going to chuck it away.

Thanks for reading! xx

i had the same problem after my first use. the formula went all gloopy, and it wasn't crackling on my nails the way i wanted it too.
my friend suggested i shake it vigorously between each nail, or every two nails, and that seems to have done the trick.

it's a lot of messing about, but it's been worth it.

Oh I hope mine doesn't turn out awful! We'll see on Wednesday. Boyfriend bought it for me ages ago because I'm on P5P...can't open it till my birthday!
Looks alright on your nails!

oh I feel well bad as you did the giveaway with your other one, and mine is good :( I found mine looks like yours but I don't think it is too bad, once I put my top coat of clear vanish on it looks better. As it does dry matte, I did find the bottom coat must be completely dry or it just does not work. See if you could swap it, maybe email Barry M ... they may send you a replacement. Link them to the blog and show them. Hope it works out or you get another one soon xxxx

Have you tried make the formula thinner with a dash of nail polish remover in the instant nail effects bottle, it might help ?

I haven't tried mine yet. I will blog the results.

Thanks for all your comments - some very helpful suggestions there - I'm going to give it another chance and try them out!

I think one of the problems as well is my nails have loads of ridges at the moment, as I haven't done a 'proper' manicure for ages. I'm going to sort my nails out properly and give it another go in a couple of weeks.

@Vintage and Cake - don't feel bad! I was worried that both of ours were from the same batch and that you had a bad one as well!
